Big Goombas (also known as Grand Goombas) are enemies who appear throughout the Newer Super Mario Bros. series. They're a bigger version of the Goomba, and can appear in many different sizes.

Big Goombas first appear in Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii. They're semi-rare enemies which first appear in Mighty Meadow and last appear in Brown Forest.

Appearance

As their name suggests, Big Goombas are just larger versions of the regular Goomba. That is to say that they have mushroom-like bodies with brown shoes, big black eyebrows, and fangs on their lower jaw. Though they're not a complete clone visually—their mouths will open and close and they'll take bigger steps.

Unlike regular Goombas, Big Goombas in Newer Super Mario Bros. DS are 3D models instead of 2D sprites. These models are taken straight from the Mega Goomba boss.

Behavior

Big Goombas act like normal Goombas, they'll slowly walk left and right and will fall at edges. Although now, when you stomp on them, they'll turn into two smaller versions of themselves. Big Goombas can appear in many sizes, and with each bigger size, the bigger the smaller version is.

Big Goombas can either be defeated by jumping on them and their clones, being hit by three fireballs, or being hit by a hammer from the Hammer Suit.
