Castles are types of levels often found at the end of a world in each of the Newer Super Mario Bros. games. They're mostly comprised of horizontal themed closed buildings and almost always feature a boss at the end. Their icon is a castle in Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii () and Bowser's symbol in Newer Super Mario Bros. DS (). Common enemies found within castles are Dry Bones and their larger variants.
In Newer Super Mario Bros. DS, they may substitute for an airship.
