Ghost Houses are levels which take place in Ghost Houses inhabited with Boos, hence their name. They tend to have many tricks, such as fake doors/Star Coins. As such, they hide the progress bar. They may or may not be marked with a ghost house icon; in Newer Super Mario Bros. DS, they have the Ghost House icon, while in Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii, they are designated with the normal letters/numbers.
In Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii, only two Ghost Houses are located in the game; both do not have a secret exit. However, in Newer Super Mario Bros. DS, each Ghost House has a secret exit, and one of these Ghost Houses contain a boss. Please note that Spookloft Tower and Spiritful Steeple are Towers, not Ghost Houses, despite their close resemblance to genuine Ghost Houses and the latter using the fortress theme from Yoshi's Island (which is the Ghost House theme in Newer Super Mario Bros. DS). Also note that Delusion Castle is a Castle rather than a ghost house despite the texture.
