Levels (also known as stages or courses) are enemy and obstacle-filled romps where Mario and co. must run, jump and crouch to reach a Goal Pole. Each level is set in a specific world, which determines its theme and difficulty. Upon completing a level, it usually unlocks either another level or some sort of special building.

In Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii and Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii Plus, there are 128 total levels spanning 14 worlds, along with a few unused levels. Meanwhile, in Newer Super Mario Bros. DS, there are a total of 80 levels spanning 8 worlds.

1-Towernsmbw Timber Tower Timber tower A tower disguised as a tree, with many Koopa Troopas inside. King Fuzzy is fought at the top, and Kamek is seen for the first time.
1-5 Fuzzy Canyon Fuzzy canyon A bridge where Fuzzies roam on track, and platforms must be used to cross.
1-6 Rainshed Pond Maxresdefault (14) A giant pool of rainwater. Goldwood Forest can be accessed from here via its secret exit.
1-7 Tangle Temple Tangle temple An ancient temple filled with vines to swing on.
1-8 Switch Shift Grove Switch shift grove A ? Switch-filled level where anything and everything can move. The Yellow Switch Palace can be accessed from here via its secret exit.
1-Castlensmbw2 Creepcrack Castle Creepcrack castle A castle of ancient ruins and traps. King Fuzzy is fought here for the second time.
1-Airship2 Derelict Airship Derelict airship A docked airship to the east coast of Yoshi's Island, where Iggy Koopa is fought.
A-1 Autumn Plateau AutumnPlateau The first stage of Goldwood Forest. It features many Bramballs and Fire Piranha Plants.
A-2 Appletree Woods Appletree woods This level has Apples that Yoshi can eat. Its secret exit leading to Goldbuzz Forest.
A-3 Fall Harvest Fall harvest This level has Prickly Goombas and Chestnuts that fall from the trees. Completing this level unlocks the Goldwood Music House.
A-A Goldbuzz Forest Goldbuzz forest This level features the gimmick of Koopa Troopas climbing on Honeycombs. The secret exit in this level unlocks Fallmart, the shop of Goldwood Forest.
A-Fortress Leafpile Fortress Maxresdefault (5) The first fortress in the game, featuring no boss. It has ruined walls with many leaves and enemy traps. This is the final level of Goldwood Forest, and completing it leads the player to Cascade Chasm of Soggy Sewers.
2-1 Cactus Cove Cactus cove This level serves as an introduction to Rubble Ruins.
2-2 Gushing Gutter Gushing gutter It's a pipe-laden area where Screw Platforms stand.
2-3 Dripdrop Drains Maxresdefault (2) A pipe-filled area filled with many Piranha Plants and Munchers.
2-4 Cascade Chasm Maxresdefault-0 The first level to autoscroll, located in a chasm, as the name implies, with many Buzzy Beetles, Goombas, Pokeys, and Piranha Plants.
2-Towernsmbw Pipeline Tower Pipeline tower This tower contains a complex system of connected pipes. The boss at the very top of the tower is King Thwomp.
2-5 Barrelband Wilds Barrelband wilds It's a desert full of Pokeys and Spikes. Its secret exit leads to Fossil Tunnel.
2-6 Urchin Seasands Urchin seasands It takes place in a sandy oasis filled with Urchins.
2-7 Windworn Dunes Windworn dunes It takes place in a windier area of Rubble Ruins.
2-8 Searing Sands HOT Watch out! The Angry Sun is lurking around this level, following Mario's every move and ready to make his day a bit hotter...
2-9 Pillar Pass Pillar pass It takes place in an area filled with pillars, Boomerang Bros. and Fire Bros. This level has a secret exit that leads to Mini-Mega Island.
2-A Fossil Tunnel Fossil tunnel A handy hidden shortcut from Barrelband Wilds which cuts through a nearby cave and goes straight to the Pyramid Castle.
2-Castlensmbw2 Pyramid Castle Pyramid castle A pyramid full of statues of Bowser's minions. Certainly nothing creepy about that. What if they came alive? That couldn't happen.. or could it? King Thwomp is fought here for the last time.
2-Airship2 Sandship Sandship This airship hovers over the dusty desert of Rubble Ruins. Roy Koopa awaits at the end of the level.
B-1 Mighty Meadow

This forest themed level introduces giant versions of enemies, such as the Mega Goomba.
B-2 Pintsized Plains

A plains-themed level featuring several micro areas within the level. This level features an underwater portion which introduces the Mega Urchin.
B-3 Troopashell Track
Troopashell track
This level takes place in a valley filled with giant Koopa Troopa shells. It is the only appearance of the Mega Stalking Piranha Plant.
B-4 Cheepcheep Creek
Cheepcheep creek
An autoscrolling underwater level featuring giant underwater enemies.
B-Fortress Formidable Fortress

The first half of the level takes place in a lava-filled fortress with Thwomps and Skewers. The pipe after the checkpoint takes you to an area outside in a plains with many big enemies. There is no boss in this level like all other fortresses in the secret worlds.
3-1 Chomproller Heights Chomproller heights It features lots of Chain Chomps, Goombas, and Hammer Bros. It also introduces the Hammer Suit.
3-2 Grimymole Mine Grimymole mine It features many Monty Moles and Expanding Mushroom Platforms.
3-3 Butterwood Crossing 3-3 This level is located on a bridge filled with Fuzzies. This level also has a lot of ! Blocks throughout the level that change some track's directions and redirects Fuzzies. The secret exit in this level unlocks Mountain Mall, the shop of Mushroom Peaks.
3-4 Wobbleshroom Bluffs Wobbleshroom bluffs The athletic level features multiple Mushroom Blocks and Mushroom Platforms, most of which are moving.
3-Towernsmbw Burnblaze Tower Burnblaze tower A tower with many fiery obstacles and moving platforms. Ricky Wrench is first fought here.
3-5 Fungi Pit Fungi pit A Mini Mushroom-themed underground area filled with Mushroom Platforms.
3-6 Bubble Basin Bubble basin An underwater level marking the only appearance of the Cheep Chomp.
3-7 Slanty Shroomroad Slanty shroomroad Another mountainous area, this time with a gimmick of slanted Mushroom Platforms.
3-Castlensmbw2 Moltenwire Castle Moltenwire castle An autoscrolling castle with many Fire Bars. Ricky Wrench is fought for the last time here.
3-Airship2 Capshroom Airship Capshroom airship An airship with lots of Screw Mushrooms. Morton Koopa Jr. is fought here.
4-1 Bamboo Steppes Bamboo steppes A standard Sakura Village level which introduces climbable bamboo stalks and Shy Guys.
4-2 Flipblock Orchard Flipblock orchard A Shy Guy-filled level with the introduction of Flip Blocks.
4-3 Cherry Falls Cherry falls A semi-watery level featuring many Shy Guys and waterfalls.
4-4 Petal Lake Petal lake A lake filled with many jumping Cheep Cheeps. The secret exit in this level unlocks Sakura Souvenirs, the shop of Sakura Village.
4-Towernsmbw Blossom Tower Blossom tower A towering Japanese-inspired building filled with Shy Guys. This is where Samerguy is first fought.
4-5 Vine Chasm Vine chasm A semi-underground chasm filled with vines and bamboo stalks.
4-A Hilltop Town Hilltop town A small town filled with lots of Japanese-inspired houses. Its normal exit leads to The Green Switch Palace. Its secret exit leads to Sky City.
4-6 Rooftop Hop Rooftop hop A level that takes place on the rooftops of many dojos full of Jump Blocks and Shy Guys.
4-7 Thunder Bridge Thunder bridge A stormy rain-drenched bridge. The Thunder Cloud makes its first and only appearance here.
4-Castlensmbw2 Samurai Castle Samurai castle A dojo filled with Mario-like monk statues. This is where Samerguy is fought for the second and final time.
4-Airship2 Nutscrew Airship Nutscrew airship An airship flying above Sakura Village filled with Mechakoopas and Screw Platforms. Lemmy Koopa is fought here.
C-1 Manta Raid An athletic sky level marking the only appearance of the Jumbo Rays.
C-2 Nimbus Highway A sky-themed level where the player must watch out for dangerous Nimbus Clouds.
C-3 Parabeetle Peril A level where the player's only reliable platforms are Para-Beetles and their heavy variants.
C-4 Sprocket Skies An area full of cogs marking the final appearances of Foos and Para-Beetles.
C-Towernsmbw Clockwork Tower A cog-filled tower filled with spikes and Tetromino Blocks. No boss is fought here.
5-1 Snowfield Tundra A standard snowy level featuring multiple Cooligans.
5-2 Snowball Field Another snowy level, this time full of Snow Spikes.
5-3 Frosty Highlands Yet another snowy level, as well as the first appearance of the Snow Pokey.
5-4 Frostbite Ridge A snowy section higher up in the sky. It eventually turns into a lift ride.
5-5 Snowfall Peak A snow level full of Ice Blocks. It has the secret exit that leads to The Red Switch Palace of Crystal Caves.
5-Towernsmbw Crystalfrost Tower A dull grey autoscrolling tower with many climbable rocks. Pyro and Cryo are first fought here.
5-6 Molten Icelifts This level introduces the "Freezeflame" (ice and lava) concept, serving as a segue between both Freezeflame Glacier and Freezeflame Volcano.
5-7 Penguin Heatbath A normal Freezeflame-themed level filled with Podoboos and Cooligans.
5-8 Magma Iceburrow An icy lava cavern, featuring many Cooligans and large icicles.
5-A Lavafrost Cavern Another lava-filled cave, featuring Huck-Ice Crabs and Piranha Plants.
5-9 Glacier Lavalake The player has to ride a giant ice boat through parts of the lava-filled lake.
5-Castlensmbw2 Chillsear Castle An icy-watery castle with many spiky obstacles. Pyro and Cryo are fought once more here.
5-Airship2 Snowdrift Airship This icy-themed airship hovers over the icy terrain of Freezeflame Glacier. Wendy O. Koopa awaits at the end of the level.
D-1 Swooper Cellar A poison water-filled cave with lots of Swoops.
D-2 Toxic Wigglershaft A society of Wigglers within the cave system. It has the secret exit that leads to Carapace Catacomb.
D-A Carapace Catacomb A catacomb full of Buzzy Beetles. Its ending area show a sliver of Pumpkin Boneyard.
D-3 Spine Springs An underwater level featuring many Big Urchins.
D-Fortress Toxic Fortress An underground fortress filled with poison water. Some of the ground drops on touch, so the player must be careful. It has no boss.
6-1 Bonechill Shaft An ice-cold cavern filled with Boos for the first time that serves as a transition from the snowy Freezeflame Glacier to the spooky Pumpkin Boneyard.
6-2 Pumpkin Road A pumpkin patch full of pumpkins and Pumpkin Bramballs.
6-3 Fog Cemetery A graveyard filled with lots of Dry Bones and Boos. It has the secret exit that leads to Colossus House.
6-A Colossus House A Ghost House that's home to many Boos, Broozers, and several of their tricks!
6-Towernsmbw Spookloft Tower A tower where the player must avoid being crushed on a forever-ascending lift. Boolossus is fought at the top.
6-4 Glowlit Manor A complex Ghost House with three sections that the player has to complete to escape.
6-5 Moonlit Woods A spooky poison water-filled land that inhabits the Mad Moon.
6-6 Cawcaw Treeway A field that marks the Crowbers' only appearance. It has the secret exit that leads to Drenched Gloomlake.
6-7 Drenched Gloomlake An extremely dark lake featuring many Fish Bones and Jellybeams.
6-8 Buried Boneyard An underground cavern filled with Broozers and Boos. Completing this level unlocks Bombshell Bridge in Bombard Cliffs.
6-Castlensmbw2 Delusion Castle A haunted castle where the player must jump across platforms that disappear and reappear at specific intervals. Boolossus is fought for the final time here.
6-Airship2 Shipwreck Galleon A sunken airship where your visibility is lowered when underwater. Boos make their final appearance here. Larry Koopa is fought at its end.
E-1 Bombshell Bridge An autoscrolling level in the caverns filled with Bob-ombs, Bullet Bills, and Switchbacks.
E-2 Fallout Footbridge A dangerous portion that marks the Bomb Bro's first appearance.
E-3 Bombassault Gorge An even more dangerous portion full of Big Bob-ombs.
7-1 Shy Guy Peaks A level containing peaks and cliffs which the players must traverse in order to advance while avoiding many Shy Guys (including their big counterparts). Yoshi makes their final appearance in the game here.
7-2 Paratroopa Peaks An autoscrolling athletic level in which players must deal with a small army of Koopa Troopas and Koopa Paratroopas.
7-3 Beanstalk Ascent A level in which players must climb Beanstalks in order to reach the top of Sky Mountain... and beyond! Shy Guys attempt to tamper with the players' progress as they climb.
7-4 Spacedust Heap A space level in which players must navigate floating platforms, many of which are surrounded by Water Bubbles.
7-Towernsmbw Electron Tower A tower where the players must ascend using climbable Fences while avoiding many Fuzzies in normal gravity. Mega Topman is fought at the top.
7-5 Asteroid Belt Another space level in which players must navigate rotating asteroids, many of which are covered in Amps that will zap the player.
7-6 Spintop Nebula An autoscrolling space level that's home to platforms which fall as they are stepped upon. Amps and Spiky Topmen seek to hinder the players' progress.
7-7 Star Haven A celestial forest containing Goombas, Koopa Troopas, Fire Piranha Plants, and purple-colored Spike Tops.
7-8 Starfruit Garden Another level within the celestial forest, this time housing purple Stretch Blocks as its main gimmick.
7-Castlensmbw2 Novastar Castle A castle filled with lava, lifts, and meteor showers raining from above. Players must contend with Bob-ombs, Dry Bones, (both normal and big) and Podoboos. Mega Topman is fought once again for the final time.
7-Airship2 Spaceship Koopa An airship with normal gravity floating in space. Ludwig von Koopa is fought at the end.
8-1 Batallion Frontier A tank-filled autoscrolling level reminiscent of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario 3D World. Some tanks emit clouds of poisonous exhaust, which must be cleared by Spin Jumping nearby.
8-2 Jet Airship An autoscrolling airship level with a vast supply of Burners. It has no boss of its own.
8-3 Burnstone Flowfalls A lava-themed area filled with Bob-ombs and Lava Geysers.
8-Towernsmbw Factory Tower A tower featuring Bob-ombs, Conveyor Belts, and spikes. It has no boss of its own.
8-4 Molten Airship Another airship, this time featuring wavy lava. It has no boss of its own.
8-Castlensmbw2 Bowser's Castle A fake out Bowser's castle which segues onto Koopa Core. It has no boss of its own.
8-Train Underground Railroad An autoscrolling level taking place on a train filled with lava and Poison Clouds.
8-6 Volcano Rapids A lava boat ride through the caverns. Watch out for occasional Poison Clouds and metal crates!
8-7 Magmaworks Factory An industrial level where the player must ride across the lava steadily on metal crates dropped from the production pipes. Watch out for enemies and gushing Lava Geysers!
8-Towernsmbw2 Pendulum Tower The player must hightail to the top of this tower because of its rising lava and enemies. Throughout, magic spells will be tossed at the player by Kamek, who is fought for the only time at the end.
8-8 Eruption Crater A 100-second dash to the top of a crumbling lava-filled volcano.
8-9 Ironworks Forge Another industrial area full of dangerous boiling water.
8-A Dragonride Firesea A Spine Coaster ride which challenges the player on collecting all 30 Red Rings without plunging into the lava below.
8-Bowsercas Bowser's Keep The final story level of the game. It is Bowser's true lair, and he is finally fought at the end.
