Chain Chomps are uncommon dog-like enemies which appear in Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii and Newer Super Mario Bros. DS.

Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii[]

Chain Chomps make their first appearance in Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii. They are first seen in Chomproller Heights, and last seen in Pendulum Tower.

Appearance[]

Chain Chomps have a very simple design. They have a dark blue head, with sharp white teeth and two expressionless eyes. They're attached to a metal chain, which is usually attatched to a yellow pole.

Behavior[]

Chain Chomps, as stated before, are usually attached to a pole. At certain intervals, they'll jump towards the player, but'll be stopped by their chain. You are able to ground pound this pole, which will free the Chain Chomp. Once freed, they will jump around in one direction, breaking any brick blocks in their path. Once they hit a wall, they will fall out of the level. They can't be hurt by most things, though they can be defeated by throwing hammers at them with the hammer bro suit or by using a star.

Newer Super Mario Bros. DS[]

Chain Chomps appear once again in Newer Super Mario Bros. DS. In this game though, they have a much smaller role, appearing in only one level: Sandstream Tunnel.

Appearance[]

Chain Chomps appear almost the same as their Wii counterparts, except some things are different. Their heads are now pure black, and their chains are little black balls. Their pole is also much thicker.

Behavior[]

Chain Chomps act the same as their Wii counterparts. They'll lash out at the player at specific intervals, but will be held back by their chain. Once you ground pound their pole, they'll bounce off. Some Chain Chomps are attached to unbreakable walls, so you must dodge them or use the Hammer Suit.
