Yoshi Woods (or World 1-2) is the second level of Yoshi's Island in Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii. It is a forest-themed level featuring Yoshis and underground tunnels.

Yoshi Woods is unlocked by completing Palm Beach. Completing it will unlock Springwater Swamp, Growing Greenwood, and Island Store.

According to the first part of his developer commentary, this level was designed by Skawo and its origins can be traced to "very early in development." He states that it was possibly the oldest level concept-wise

Star Coins[]

  • Star Coin 1: Near the start is a yellow Warp Pipe. The player must go down it to find a hidden area in the ground with a green Warp Pipe, which further leads to an underground chamber with several coins and the first Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 2: After the checkpoint is an opening in a wall. Within it is the second Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 3: The player will need to be in their Super form or stronger to obtain this Star Coin. At the end of the underground tunnel, the player must ground pound some Brick Blocks to find a Warp Pipe that leads you into a room with two Hammer Bros.. They must be taken out before a gate opens and the third Star Coin becomes accessible.

Trivia[]

  • The third Star Coin's room, with its Hammer Bro battle and unique theme, was initially a part of a grander idea to include little battle arenas throughout the game's levels as secrets. This idea didn't stick for unknown reasons, and a remnant of it can still be seen in an obscure Big Piranha Plant arena sporting the same music in Gushing Gutter.
