The most common thug Mario encounters in his adventures. Goombas are easily scared, beat, and don't have much of an attack pattern. It is said, however, that huge and tiny variations exist somewhere...

Goombas are extremely common enemies found throughout the Newer Super Mario Bros. series.

Appearance

Goombas are depicted as brown mushroom-like creatures with darker brown shoe-like feet. They have bushy eyebrows and a pair of white fangs sprouting from their lower jaw. In Newer Super Mario Bros. DS, Goombas are 2D sprites instead of 3D models. This is due to the fact that in the original New Super Mario Bros., they were turned into 2D sprites to improve performance.

Goombas are depicted as having different colors depending on their environment. For example, in Navyblue Molemine, they appear blue, while in Magma Iceburrow, they appear grey.

There are several reskins of the Goomba. Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii, Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii Plus, Newer Super Mario Bros. DS, and Newer: Falling Leaf all have Christmas Goombas which wear Santa hats in snowy environments. Newer Super Mario Bros. DS introduces two more reskins, in the form of Space Goombas, which are Goombas sporting astronaut helmets which only appear in Lunar Realm, as well as Bone Goombas, which are Dry Bones-styled Goombas only found in Pumpkin Boneyard.

Behavior

Goombas are quite easy enemies. They'll slowly walk left and right, fall off ledges, and can be defeated by almost anything. Their different colors and reskins do not affect this simple behavior.
