Hammer Suits (also known as Hammer Flowers) are uncommon powerups which appear throughout several Newer Super Mario Bros. games.

The Hammer Suit will stay stationary, waiting for the player to touch it. Once the player does, they'll be able to throw hammers in arcs akin to Hammer Bros.. These hammers travel through walls.

These hammers also have the ability to defeat certain enemies and obstacles that the Fire Flower and Ice Flower cannot. These include Boos, Icicles, and more. When the player is damaged, they will revert back to their Super form.

In Newer Super Mario Bros. DS, the Hammer Suit overwrote the Blue Shell, so it shares some of its abilities. After the player collects a Hammer Suit (shown as a Hammer Flower), they will gain the ability to shell spin if they crouch after running or on slopes. In any other situation, when crouching, the player is given immunity to basic attacks, essentially acting like a normal block for the enemies to interact with.
