Koopa Troopas are common enemies found throughout the Newer Super Mario Bros. series. They are found in most levels.

Appearance[]

Koopa Troopas are bipedal turtle-like creatures with yellow pairs of arms and legs, small yellow tails, and yellow heads with two tiny nostrils and two large white eyes popping above. Their bodies are within shells with beige lined bottom sides, patterned top sides coming in several colors depending on their behavior, and white rims connecting their two sides. They wear large shoes which come in the same color as their shells.

Koopa Troopas' shells and shoes are commonly green or red, semi-commonly blue, and rarely orange, yellow, purple, white, or black.

In Newer Super Mario Bros. DS, Koopa Troopas appear as 2D sprites instead of 3D models since in the original New Super Mario Bros., they were 2D sprites to improve performance.

Behavior[]

Koopa Troopas will slowly walk left and right, always turning at walls. When stomped by the player, they will hide in their shells, halting their movement for a few seconds before they eventually get back up and continue to walk. While in their shells, they can be picked up and thrown in the direction of where the player is looking or kicked away in said direction. A sliding Koopa Troopa shell can defeat most enemies on contact, collect coins and Star Coins, break Brick Blocks, and activate Question Blocks. Certain Koopa Troopas spawn already within their shells as if they were stomped.

Koopa Troopas can be properly defeated by spin jumps, Fire Flowers' fireballs, Hammer Suits' hammers, Super Stars, and Mega Mushrooms. They can be frozen by Ice Flowers and Penguin Suits' iceballs.

Koopa Troopas can come in several colors which slightly affect how they act. Green Koopa Troopas fall off of edges while red Koopa Troopas turn away from them. Other colors may use either behavior.

Ironically, In Newer Super Mario Bros. DS a Blue Koopa Troopa is common and appears in multiple levels such as Unsteady Gorge.

When Koopa Paratroopas are stomped, they'll turn into Koopa Troopas of their color.

Koopa Troopas will transform into Dry Bones upon coming into contact with wavy lava in Newer Super Mario Bros. DS, a mechanic solely used in Bowser's Castle in Koopa Country.
