Lunar Realm is the only secret world in Newer Super Mario Bros. DS. It takes place in outer space, where zero-gravity ensues. It is represented by the moon over a starry space.
Its tower boss is Bowser Jr. and its airship boss is Petey Piranha.
Overview[]
Lunar Realm takes place in space, where the only platforms are rocks and asteroids, similar to Starry Skies in Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii. Most levels have space physics, meaning the player jumps higher and falls slower, with the exceptions of Mt. Skydrop and Sledge Summits, which take place below in a mountainous terrain, and Runbow Road, which takes place on a stretch of rainbow-colored floating road akin to Rainbow Road of the Mario Kart series. Snailicorns, oddly enough, commonly inhabit the rocky terrain along with Amps.
Lunar Realm can only be accessed through using World 5- in Moonview Glacier, unlocked via The House of Stairs' secret exit. Completion of Thornspire Doomship grants access to Boomblast Badlands in Koopa Country.

Description
|
---|---|---|---|
6-1 | Highhop Pass | An introduction to the space physics where Snailicorns and Amps will attack. | |
6-A | Asteroid Valley | An asteroid-filled level with Snailicorns and Spinners. | |
6-2 | Mt. Skydrop | The first mountain-themed level of Lunar Realm, making the player fall all the way from space. This, of course, only leads to Koopa Troopas and Boomerang Bros. that want the player gone. | |
6- | Shockbelt Spire | A dark tower filled with Amps and Conveyor Belts which, unlike Electron Tower in Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii, has space physics. Bowser Jr. is fought at the top. | |
6-3 | Meteor Lane | An autoscrolling level which has dangerous meteorites and marks the only appearance of the Kab-omb. | |
6-4 | Napalm Nebula | An asteroid cluster with many Fire Bars and Space Goombas. | |
6-5 | Runbow Road | A fast-paced rainbow-filled dash through space inspired by Rainbow Road from the Mario Kart series. | |
6-6 | Sledge Summits | The second and final mountain-themed level of Lunar Realm. This time, Sledge Bros. and Blockhoppers will attempt to impede the player's progress. | |
6-B | Shape Zone | An odd zone where floating Shape Blocks are the only reliable platform. | |
6-7 | Freeleap Galaxy | An homage to Space Zone Area 2 from Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins where the player can jump freely while avoiding dangerous Stars. | |
6- | Thornspire Doomship | A Skewer-filled airship where the player must carefully use their zero-gravity to jump over gaps. Petey Piranha is fought at the end. |
Trivia[]
- Lunar Realm's space physics is an unused mechanic from the original New Super Mario Bros. It did not allow for wall jumps, which was part of the reason why Skawo decided to make this world secret.
